“Mama, Ljubim Cigana Jana”
Rodila sem se tebi,
rodila le za njega.
Življenje si mi dala,
jaz ga njemu dam.
On je v mojem srcu,
svetloba v o?esu.
Na ustnicah nasmeh je,
dih mojih prsi je.
O, mama mama mama,
ljubim cigana Jana.
O, mama mama mama,
ljubim cigana Jana.
Pusti, da ljubim, mama,
?e z njim ne bom, bom sama.
Srce na dvoje trga
mi tvoja solza.
Mama ne pusti svetu,
da se sramuje zame.
Da meni grehe piše,
ta, ki mе ne pozna.
Kri naj zavre v žilah,
naj se v prah sesuje,
naj mе prebode strela,
?e jo kdaj izdam.

Almost, but not quite
They weren’t pulling your leg, but it’s not really accurate, what they said. Basically, Gypsies do not have a good reputation, and it would probably have been disgraceful, to love a Gypsy – especially in the times the song was created (it is at least decades old). So she is begging her mother not to listen to what “they” say, not to cry for the perceived shame she brings to their family, but to allow her to love whoever she loves, even if he is a Gypsy.
“Mom, I love Gypsy John”
I was born to you,
born only for him.
You gave my life to me,
and I give it to him.
He is in my heart,
light in my eye.
Smile on the lips,
breath of my ******.
O mommy mommy mommy,
I love Gypsy John.
O mommy mommy mommy,
I love Gypsy John.
Let me love, mom,
if I’m not with him, I’ll be alone.
It breaks my heart in two,
your tear.
Mom, don’t let the folk
be ashamed for me.
To ascribe to me sins
he who does not know me.
May blood boil in the veins,
may it fall to dust,
may an arrow pierce me,
if I ever betray her.
[I am not quite sure what the "her" in the last line refers to, but I would guess "Mom", the only feminine word around... but it might be also something that would translate as "it" in English, although I really have no idea what it might be... oh well]
Well I’ll try I am Macedonian so there are some similar words:
Mother,I love gypsy John(it’s not exactly John it’s Jane originally)
I was born by you,
born for him,
you gave me life
so I can give it to him.
He is in my heart
light in the eyes
he’s a smile on the lips
breath of my *******.
O,mother,mother,mother
I love gypsy John
O,mother,mother,mother
I love gypsy John.
Let me love him ,mother
because I can’t without him,without him alone…
and I think the same as the person above me
