JUST QUIT! If you really want to quit anything you can…if you haven’t then you don’t really want to…you will get it when you get it…
There are all sorts of things to help someone quit smoking and chewing. It is true that if a person does not WANT to quit and tries anyway they most likely will not be successful. I am currently on day 3 of quitting smoking and I use the Nicoderm CQ patches. They are really great for getting rid of nicotine fits and getting you out of the physical habit of smoking. There is Nicorette gum and also inhalers that can aid in kicking the habit just so long as the instructions are followed.
Your friend can quit cold turkey as well, this will probably make him a bit cranky for a little while and hard to be around. It is really an internal fight quitting something you are addicted to and the only thing you can do is tell him he is doing a good job, and he can do it, and just be there to support him.
